ASM SREダンパーキット3way for MINI prototype

MINI用ASM SRE 3wayダンパーの試作品が完成しました。
今装着しているASM SREダンパーキットZEROは、ワインディングや高速ツーリングに重きを置きつつストリートでの快適性を最大限考慮したサスキットで、発売から2年を経過した今でも根強い人気がある製品です。MINIオーナーさんの本物志向の表れかもしれません。今回3wayダンパーを開発する一番の目的は、減衰やバネレートを少し上げると乗り心地が悪化するし、少し下げると車の無駄な動きが気になり始める、セッティングが非常に繊細でシビアなMINIのサスを100％オーナーの好みにアジャストするためのダンパーを作ろうと言うことでした。特に重視しているのは箱根ターンパイクのような路面変化が大きな高速ワインディングです。
フロントはポルシェ996 GT3 RSRの基本デザインを踏襲したレーシングダンパーそのものです。全長調整機能はあえて持たせず、ジオメトリー変化を含めてASが適正と判断した適度な車高ダウンに留めて固定します。アッパーマウントは純正を基本とします。ただしMINIの場合ノーマルアッパーマウントは強度が足りていないのか、時々変形してそれがストラットタワーの変形を引き起こすらしいので、ノーマルアッパーを挟み込んで補強するタイプの新型アッパーマウントを付属します。かなりコストがかかったアッパーマウントになりますので価格に跳ね返ってしまいますが、純正アッパーマウントが基本なので異音に悩まされず、しかも3wayダンパーの変化をキッチリと受け止めてくれるようになるので必須アイテムと言えます。
リヤはS2000やZ33で実績のあるパーツを組み合わせて組み立てました。リヤのアッパーマウントが隠れてしまう車なのでダンパー装着状態でRebound側減衰変更をするのが無理なのですが、新設計の専用アッパーマウントと組み合わせることでそれを可能にしています。コトコト音が発生するようであればオーソドックスな純正アッパー対応に変更して、Rebound側減衰は多少面倒でもダンパー脱着して行う方式にします。レーシングパーツを使っていてもあくまでストリートカーですから、このあたりのネガティブな要素は極力減らしたいと考えています。全長調整機構を持たせているのでコーナーウェイト調整はリヤを動かして行うことが可能です。
このダンパーは、明後日6/19（金）〜21（日）に東京ビッグサイトで開催される
SIS 東京スペシャルインポートカーショー2009
のASMブースに展示後、早ければ今月中にもボクの赤いMINIに装着して走行テストに入る予定です。普通に考えればMINI用ダンパーとしてこれ程素晴らしいものは生まれてきません。製品とは、作ることができるかどうかも大切ですが、それを理解して購入できる人がいるかどうかがもっと大切だと思います。いいお客様に恵まれたASMで仕事して、こういう製品を企画できるボクは幸せ者です。

The ASM SRE damper kit ZERO which I have on my MINI is for mainly for twisty roads and high speed touring and as much comfort for street use. It has been two years since we started selling this product and still very popular with those MINI owners. The main reason of producing a 3way damper was to be able to adjust 100% for those MINI owners. Increasing the damper and springs will affect the comfort badly, reducing it will have too much unnecessary movement. It is very caviar and delicate to set up for MINI. And making a damper which can handle big road surface changes like Hakone.
For the front, it is a racing damper its self, design based on the Porches 996 Cup Car. Which purposely did not added the length adjust, including the changes of the geometry, we will stable it on the best height according to the AS. We will be using the genuine upper mount but we will add in enhance upper mount which can be fitted to the normal upper mount. Since the normal upper mount is not strong enough and sometimes changes its shape. It’s based on the genuine upper mount so it does not make any noise and plus will received the changes from the 3way damper with any problem.
For the rear, we build it with parts based on the data we have from S2000 and Z33. since, the rear upper mount hides, its difficult to adjust the Rebound while the damper is installed, but with the new design upper mount you will be able to adjust. If it makes any noise, we will use the normal upper mount even though it’s a bit trouble to adjust. After all it’s still a street car even though we are using racing parts. I would like to reduce these kinds of troubles as much as possible. For the rear the height can be adjust with corner weight adjust can be made.
This damper will be displayed at the SIS Tokyo Special Import Car Show 2009 during June 19th until the 21st at ASM booth. If possible, I will install it on my red MINI and do some tests. I think there isn’t a damper for MINI which is like this out there. It’s important if it’s possible to produce items like these but more important if there is any one out there who understands this and purchases this. I am lucky to have many customers who understand this at ASM producing it.
